The 'Runners are scoring an average of more than four per game. That and some gaudy penalty stats definitely make for some interesting hockey!

Here is an article from azcentral.com which covers the Attack End snafu from the 'Runners opening weekend. It also mentions some clock mismanagament from opening night that occurred.

Great game last night, even though we were on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Speaking of scoreboards, looks like whoever was operating it wasn't quite ready for prime-time!

I think a smart idea would also be to have to visiting goalie at the south end for two periods. I was in 109, so all of our goals happened on the other side of the ice.

The hockey was pretty decent, though the players need to be smarter about not passing through their own slot.

Very entertaining and wallet-friendly. And it was fun to again yell "Go Runners!"

Claude Lemiuex was on the Pat McMahon tv show today talking about the 'Runners. Did anyone by chance catch it? I know they did a ticket giveaway for Saturday night's game (5 or 6 pairs of tickets).

Season tickets
Is anyone interested in splitting season tickets? The cheapest ones are $252 a seat for 34 or 36 games. We were thinking about getting them, but I don't think we could make it to every game. Here is more in-depth ticket info

Meep meep!
I don't know why I never noticed this before, but our hockey teams are the Roadrunners and the Coyotes. Is this some kind of Warner Brothers ploy?

'Runners Sign First Two Players in Franchise(ECHL) History

Tiltgen, Mole, Bring Impressive Credentials to ECHL Team

CONTACT: Robert Harris 602-379-7912 or rharris@suns.com

PHOENIX – The ECHL Phoenix Roadrunners have signed their first two players, as the franchise prepares for its first season of play at America West Arena, Roadrunners president Claude Lemieux announced today. Goaltender Michael Mole and center Dean Tiltgen have agreed to one-year contracts with the Roadrunners. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

“The two most important positions on any hockey team are goaltender and center,” Lemieux said. “It is appropriate, then, that the first two players to don the Roadrunners uniform occupy those two positions.

“Michael Mole and Dean Tiltgen not only represent the first two players to be signed by our team, but also two players who our fans will be very impressed with relative to the ability both will demonstrate on a consistent basis.”

Mole, a 22 year old who was drafted by the NHL Ottawa Senators in 2004-05, has established himself as one of the top goaltenders in Canadian Junior Hockey. Over the past four seasons in the Ontario Hockey Association (2001-03) and the Canadian Inter-University Sports League, he has a 2.61 goals-against average in 127 games, with eight shutouts and a record of 71 wins, 41 losses and 13 ties. The product of St. Xavier University was selected his team's Most Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season, and in the just-completed 2004-05 campaign was a first-team league All-Star.

Tiltgen, 31, is a seven-year veteran of professional hockey, including five seasons in the ECHL. Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1992, he finished third in the league in goals scored (40) while with the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the 2001-02 season. In his ECHL career, Tiltgen has scored 117 career goals with four different clubs, the last being the San Diego Gulls (2003-04). Tiltgen had four consecutive seasons scoring 30 goals or more (1998-2002).

Both players will be playing in Hockey Night in Phoenix , a special exhibition game presented by the Roadrunners tonight (April 19 th ) at America West Arena which will feature some of the best professional hockey stars in the world.

Roadrunner Jerseys

Phoenix Roadrunners Unveil Jerseys
March 11, 2005

PHOENIX – The new ECHL member in Phoenix on Friday announced that the nickname for the team would be the Roadrunners while also unveiling the jerseys for the team’s inaugural season in 2005-06. The home, road and alternate jersey were all designed and created by licensed ECHL jersey supplier Reebok.

The team logo incorporates the traditional Rocky Roadrunner used by each of the previous versions of the Roadrunners from the Western Hockey League entry in 1967 to the International Hockey League club in 1997.

“The ECHL Phoenix Roadrunners will maintain a strong link to the tradition of Roadrunner teams of the past,” said team president Claude Lemieux. “The logo is part of that tradition.”

The home jersey has a white body trimmed with light blue, yellow and black stripes on each sleeve, around the neck and across the waist. The road jersey has a light blue body with white, yellow and black stripes on each sleeve, around the neck and across the waist. Both the home and the road jerseys have the primary Rocky Roadrunner logo. The alternate jersey is white with light blue trim around the neck and light blue and yellow stripes on each sleeve and around the waist. The alternate jersey features only the roadrunner head on its crest.

Persons interested in tickets for the Roadrunners can telephone (602) 462-GOAL.
