The 'Runners are scoring an average of more than four per game. That and some gaudy penalty stats definitely make for some interesting hockey!

azcentral article
Here is an article from azcentral.com which covers the Attack End snafu from the 'Runners opening weekend. It also mentions some clock mismanagament from opening night that occurred.

Great game last night, even though we were on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Speaking of scoreboards, looks like whoever was operating it wasn't quite ready for prime-time!

I think a smart idea would also be to have to visiting goalie at the south end for two periods. I was in 109, so all of our goals happened on the other side of the ice.

The hockey was pretty decent, though the players need to be smarter about not passing through their own slot.

Very entertaining and wallet-friendly. And it was fun to again yell "Go Runners!"

Claude Lemiuex was on the Pat McMahon tv show today talking about the 'Runners. Did anyone by chance catch it? I know they did a ticket giveaway for Saturday night's game (5 or 6 pairs of tickets).

Season tickets
Is anyone interested in splitting season tickets? The cheapest ones are $252 a seat for 34 or 36 games. We were thinking about getting them, but I don't think we could make it to every game. Here is more in-depth ticket info

Meep meep!
I don't know why I never noticed this before, but our hockey teams are the Roadrunners and the Coyotes. Is this some kind of Warner Brothers ploy?

I guess this means we'll have to give up overpriced tickets and athletes. Oh, darn.

Tim Breslin
Copied from hockey (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hockey/1898772.html):

From a press release from the Chicago Wolves:

Former Chicago Wolves left wing Tim Breslin passed away Wednesday night due to complications from appendiceal cancer, which is a malignancy of the appendix. Breslin was diagnosed in late November of 2004.

The Addison native and Driscoll Catholic High School graduate was one of the first three players signed by the Wolves. He played five seasons with the team, registering 37 goals; 82 assists; 119 points and 298 penalty minutes in 330 games from 1994 to 1999 and won the 1998 Turner Cup Championship with the Wolves.

Breslin also received the I. John Snider Trophy as the International Hockey League’s Man of the Year following the 1996-97 season for his outstanding community service.

“You could always count on Tim to come and compete every night and do what was needed for the team to win,” said General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. “He wasn’t into personal glory, he was always a team player. The entire organization grieves his passing and extends our sincerest condolences to his family.”

A wake for Breslin will be held on Sun., Feb. 13, followed by a funeral on Mon., Feb. 14. Both will take place at Malone’s Funeral Home in Geneva, Ill. Times have not yet been announced.

The Wolves will recognize Breslin by wearing shamrock-shaped helmet stickers bearing his initials. The team will also honor him before the game at the Allstate Arena on Fri., Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m., with a tribute and a moment of silence.

Although the article does not mention it, Tim Breslin played for the Roadrunners from 1991-1994.

His Runners stats:

Season Team Lge GP G A Pts PIM
1991-92 Phoenix Roadrunners IHL 45 8 21 29 12
1992-93 Phoenix Roadrunners IHL 79 14 30 44 55
1993-94 Phoenix Roadrunners IHL 50 9 18 27 29

What did you guys like to do before, during or after games to assure a 'Runners win (or at least a decent shot at one)?

For weekend games, my group would have steaks and Monti's La Casa Vieja. We'd drive to Vet's Memorial all the way up McDowell. I'd have a blueberry Icee between the second and third periods. And I'd refuse to use the bathroom no matter what (Of course, this might have more to do with the condition of the facilities than any sort of superstition).

Your seats
Okay, gang...where did you all like to sit at the 'Runners games?

I was usually in 207, Row 12, nearly to the border with 208. If you heard a freon-powered airhorn, it was probably me.

Great seats...I got to torment the away goalie for two periods and we had metal bleachers that made a lot of noise when you stomped on 'em. There was one guy who sat along the glass...when there was a fight in front of him, he'd slip his Ward Cleaver-style slipper of his right foot and bash it against the glass.

Hey there everyone.
I'm totally psyched about the idea of the Roadrunners being back in action. My grandad was part of the organization and it would just please the heck out of him to see them back. I guess I'll see what relics and artifacts we might have stored away from back in the day.

The Rocky autographed picture reminded me of all the team photos I have that we used to take to get autographed on meet the team nights. That might have been the same as the all skate nights. I have some autographed cards too. Time to dust off the Roadrunners memory box!

Go! Go! Runners!

I just wanted to make a quick post and say hello. I used to go to Roadrunners games when I was a kid. We started going when my dad's office would go (section 210, rows 40 and up, I believe). I still remember some of the chants they had ("Elevator! Elevator! We got the shaft!"). Usually when I went with just my dad we would sit behind one of the goals.

That picture is from a set of player cards that they gave out for an autograph signing. Appropriately enough, I just found them in my room the other day. I have probably about 20 or so cards. I might scan the rest sometime, but since my scanner is not a flatbed scanner, it's difficult to get it right.
